Chennai Traffic Police Personnel Suspended for Assault on Motorist

In a disturbing incident in Koyambedu, three Chennai Traffic Police personnel were suspended for assaulting a drunken motorist during a routine check. The altercation occurred when the police stopped S. Hemanath, 27, for drunken driving and failure to produce his driving license. The situation escalated when Hemanath allegedly abused the officers, prompting two of them to physically attack him, resulting in injuries.

Following the incident, a video of the assault went viral on social media, prompting senior police officers to launch an investigation. Reserve Sub-Inspector Sakthivel and Grade-I police constables Arul and Dinesh were subsequently suspended pending further inquiry.

Additionally, the Additional Commissioner of Police, Traffic R. Sudhakar, emphasized the importance of professional conduct and instructed officers to refrain from using mobile phones while on duty, urging them to maintain respectful interactions with the public and avoid resorting to physical force unless necessary.
