Congress Pushes for Parliamentary Debate on China’s Role in Pakistan Conflict

The Congress party has called for a discussion in Parliament regarding claims that China provided technical support to Pakistan during last year’s Operation Sindoor. The party is questioning the Modi government’s approach toward China, particularly its easing of trade and investment restrictions and increasing industrial reliance on China.

Congress leader Jairam Ramesh criticized the government’s “4C policy” – Continuing Calibrated Capitulation to China – and highlighted concerns over India’s growing dependency on China. He raised questions about why Prime Minister Modi gave a clean chit to China in 2020, undermining India’s negotiating position, and why the government has not protested against Chinese actions during the conflict.

China recently confirmed its involvement when CCTV interviewed Zhang Heng, a Chinese engineer who provided technical support to Pakistan’s air force during the clash. This confirmation comes after India had accused China of aiding Pakistan in the four-day conflict last May.

The Congress argues that these issues must be addressed in Parliament to understand the implications for India’s security and economic policies.
