Crackdown on Unauthorized Commercial Vehicle Usage: Transport Commissioner Issues Warning

Transport Commissioner A. Shanmugasundaram has issued a stern warning against the unauthorized commercial use of private vehicles, emphasizing the need for obtaining proper permits. Expressing concern over reports of private vehicles being employed for commercial purposes like transporting tourists and film crews without the necessary permits, Shanmugasundaram highlighted the streamlined procedures for obtaining licenses for commercial use.

The Transport Department’s recent five-day special drive across the State aimed to curb such unauthorized practices, resulting in the inspection of 5,273 vehicles. Of these, 155 were found operating without the required permits, leading to the collection of ₹18.53 lakh in fines, with 121 vehicles being detained. The commissioner’s statement underscores the importance of adhering to regulations to ensure the legality of commercial activities involving private vehicles.
