Employee Arrested for Watching Film During Vote Count
A contract employee working in the CCTV surveillance room at the vote-counting centre in Anna University, Chennai, was arrested for serious misconduct while on duty.
According to officials, the employee allegedly downloaded and watched a leaked version of the film Jana Nayagan on his laptop during work hours. The movie stars Vijay, who is also associated with Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK).
He reportedly took a photo of the film while it was playing and shared the image on social media.
The incident is considered a major security concern because the employee was assigned to monitor CCTV footage at a highly sensitive vote-counting centre.
On the night of April 23, Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) from five Assembly constituencies — Saidapet, Virugambakkam, Velachery, T. Nagar, and Mylapore — had been brought to Anna University for counting and were being protected under strict security arrangements.
Authorities viewed the employee’s behavior as a serious violation of duty and security protocols.
Police have arrested him, and further investigation is underway to determine the full extent of the breach.
