Energy-Efficient Transformation: Tambaram Corporation to Finish LED Streetlight Project by Year End

The Tambaram Corporation is on track to complete its ambitious LED bulb conversion project by the end of this year, aimed at replacing conventional bulbs with energy-efficient light-emitting diode (LED) bulbs in streetlights. The initiative targets the replacement of 37,803 streetlights in the five zones of the corporation, with 20,862 conversions already completed.

The project, inaugurated in August at a cost of ₹48.33 crore, is funded through the State Urban Infrastructure Development Fund (SUIDF). The State government has additionally sanctioned ₹6.48 crore for installing 3,634 LED bulbs in areas identified for new streetlights.

The corporation has successfully converted streetlights in Pammal, Pallavaram, Sembakkam, Perungalathur, and Tambaram East zones, with the remaining conversions underway in a phased manner. The comprehensive transformation aims to enhance energy conservation measures across the city.
