Ennore Residents Persist in Protest a Month After Ammonia Leak

Residents of Ennore, Tamil Nadu, continue their protest against Coromandel International Limited, demanding the shutdown of the fertilizer unit one month after an ammonia leak occurred on December 26, 2023. Despite assurances from officials, the villagers have not received a detailed report on the incident, including information about the company’s ammonia shipment, periodic emissions, and recent safety audits.

The Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board has sought time until February 6 to file a detailed report before the National Green Tribunal. The Ennore People’s Protection Group, representing 33 villages, emphasizes the need for action against the company rather than monetary compensation.
