Omni Bus Owners Protest Shift to Kilambakkam Terminus
A group of private omni bus operators, accompanied by passengers, staged a protest at the Chennai Mofussil Bus Terminus (CMBT) in Koyambedu in response to the decision to redirect all south-bound omni buses to the newly-inaugurated Kilambakkam terminus. The Commissionerate of Transport and Road Safety issued a circular warning that action would be taken against owners of south-bound omni buses operating from the Koyambedu bus terminus.
Omni bus operators argued that the sudden shift to Kilambakkam would cause hardship for thousands of passengers who had booked tickets in advance. They claimed that the new terminus lacks sufficient facilities, and parking space, and that the move would lead to traffic congestion. Transport officials defended the decision, citing a prior agreement with omni bus owners to operate south-bound buses from Kilambakkam.
