Five-Tier Security for Republic Day Celebrations in Chennai

The Greater Chennai City Police is implementing a robust five-tier security arrangement for the Republic Day celebrations in the city, deploying 7,500 police personnel. Governor R.N. Ravi is scheduled to unfurl the national flag near Marina Labour Statue at Kamarajar Road – Walajah Road Junction in Chennai on January 26, 2024. Commissioner of Police Sandeep Rai Rathore has ordered the five-tier security setup, focusing on Kamarajar Road and its surrounding areas.

Security measures have been enhanced at key locations, including the airport, railway stations, bus stands, commercial establishments, beaches, and places of worship. Additionally, intensive patrolling and vehicle inspections are being conducted throughout the city.

Anti-sabotage checks, including bomb detection and disposal squads, have been implemented at crucial locations, and a ban on flying drones and unmanned aerial vehicles in Chennai has been imposed on Thursday and Friday. Violators of the ban will face strict legal action, according to Mr. Rathore.
