Former Karnataka Chief Minister Criticizes State Government Over Cauvery Water Issue
Former Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai criticized the state government on Tuesday, stating that it is repeatedly making mistakes that are causing difficulties for the people of the state. He emphasized that if the government is releasing water as per the orders of the Cauvery Water Management Authority (CWMA), there should be no argument before the Supreme Court.
Bommai pointed out that the state had filed an affidavit before the Supreme Court, pledging not to release water after September 12, and the government should adhere to it. He expressed concern that the government’s actions have put farmers and residents in the Cauvery basin in a challenging situation and lamented that his advice had not been heeded by those in power. Bommai also noted the need for the state’s advocates to explain the situation of the dams and water utilization to seek relief in the matter.
