Gandhi Mandapam Junction to Go Signal-Free
A major traffic improvement project is currently being carried out at the busy Gandhi Mandapam Junction near Indian Institute of Technology Madras in Chennai.
The State Highways Department is widening Sardar Patel Road as part of this project. Once the work is completed, the junction is expected to become signal-free, which will help improve traffic movement.
According to traffic police, vehicles traveling from Guindy to Kotturpuram will be allowed to take a free left turn without stopping at traffic lights.
For motorists traveling from Kotturpuram to Guindy, the new system will guide them to take a free left onto Sardar Patel Road and then make a U-turn under the L-shaped flyover.
This redesigned traffic system aims to reduce traffic jams, improve the smooth flow of vehicles, and save travel time at one of Chennai’s busiest road intersections.
Commuters from nearby areas such as Adyar are also expected to benefit from this development.
Overall, the project is expected to make daily travel easier, faster, and safer for thousands of motorists using this route.
