Gavaskar Warns Mumbai Indians to Win Every Match
Mumbai, India, April 29 (ANI): Legendary cricketer Sunil Gavaskar has expressed concern over the inconsistent performance of the Mumbai Indians (MI) in the ongoing IPL 2026. He emphasized that MI must win all their remaining matches to stay in the playoff race after suffering a heavy loss to the Chennai Super Kings (CSK).
In their recent match, CSK defeated MI by an impressive margin of 103 runs at the Wankhede Stadium. Sanju Samson scored an unbeaten century (101 runs off 54 balls) for CSK, supported by Akeal Hosein’s four-wicket haul (4/17). This strong performance allowed CSK to set a high target of 208 runs, which MI struggled to chase, being bowled out for just 104.
Speaking on Star Sports ahead of MI’s clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on April 29, Gavaskar highlighted the need for consistency. He noted that while MI has the potential to win all remaining matches, they must ensure everything clicks into place to secure their playoff spot.
MI faces SRH, who are currently on a four-match winning streak. This high-stakes match will be played at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
Meanwhile, the IPL 2026 points table remains tightly contested. Punjab Kings lead with 13 points from 8 matches, followed closely by Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Rajasthan Royals. Sunrisers Hyderabad sits in fourth place with 10 points, while MI is ranked ninth with limited wins so far in the season.
Gavaskar’s comments underscore the importance of consistency for MI as they aim to bounce back from their recent defeat and secure a playoff spot.
