Goyal Warns Against Using Food for Political Pressure
Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal has highlighted India’s commitment to food security and fair international trade rules during the first day of the G20 Trade Ministers’ Meeting in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Goyal appreciated the United States for giving importance to food-related discussions during the summit. He said ensuring adequate food supplies for everyone remains a key priority for India.
The minister also stressed the need to improve opportunities and support for farmers, who play a central role in maintaining the country’s food security.
Goyal further emphasized that food should not be used as a tool to put pressure on other countries. He called for international trade practices that protect food security while creating fair opportunities for farmers and nations.
India’s position at the meeting reflects its focus on balancing global trade cooperation with domestic food security and the interests of its farming community.
