Greater Chennai Corporation Initiates Tree Pruning for Monsoon Preparedness

The Greater Chennai Corporation has begun tree pruning in Zone 9 as part of its monsoon preparedness efforts. This initiative focuses on trimming trees along stormwater drains and pavements in various zones across the city. Earlier, pruning work was completed in Zones 5, 6, and 11. To minimize inconvenience to the public, the Corporation is conducting tree pruning at night or during low-traffic hours.

This action follows concerns from residents in areas like Virugambakkam and Pallikaranai about the risk of falling trees. The Corporation emphasizes the importance of maintaining greenery while ensuring public safety during the monsoon season. Trained conservancy workers and hydraulic machines are deployed for the pruning process, and coordination with the Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (Tangedco) is part of the plan.
