Immediate Action Taken After Sodomy Cases: Delhi Chief Minister Suspends Teachers and Vice Principal

In response to the disturbing sodomy cases involving two school students, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has promptly ordered the suspension of the implicated teachers and vice principal. The move came after it was revealed that despite being informed by one of the children about the incident, the school staff failed to report it to the police.

Education Minister Atishi, under Kejriwal’s directive, has written to the Directorate of Education, emphasizing the importance of comprehensive training for principals and teachers on the provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act to prevent such incidents in the future. Atishi’s letter outlined that non-reporting of sexual abuse by adults aware of the situation is a criminal offense under the POCSO Act.

She further stressed the need for rigorous training, the creation of high-quality reference materials, and guidelines to create a supportive environment for handling abuse cases in schools. The Delhi government reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring a safe and secure environment for students holistic development.
