India and South Korea Sign Four MOUs
Narendra Modi held delegation-level talks with the President of South Korea, Lee Jae Myung, in New Delhi today. The meeting focused on strengthening ties between the two countries in several important areas.
During the talks, India and South Korea signed four Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs). These agreements cover cooperation in sports, as well as cultural and creative industries. Another agreement focuses on setting up an Industrial Cooperation Committee for small and medium enterprises, aimed at helping businesses from both countries work together more closely.
Both sides also exchanged a joint declaration to restart negotiations on upgrading the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) between India and South Korea. They also agreed on a framework called the “India-Korea Digital Bridge” to boost cooperation in digital technology and innovation.
Speaking at a joint press briefing, Prime Minister Modi said that both countries share strong democratic values, a market-based economy, and respect for the rule of law. He added that India and South Korea also have similar views on the Indo-Pacific region.
Mr. Modi noted that in the last ten years, the relationship between the two countries has grown stronger and become more active in many areas. He said that President Lee’s visit will help take this partnership forward and turn it into a more future-focused relationship.
Overall, the meeting marked an important step in deepening cooperation between India and South Korea in trade, technology, culture, and global affairs.
