Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan Defers to Congress on Rahul Gandhi’s Candidacy

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan stated that it’s up to the Congress party to decide whether Rahul Gandhi should contest against the BJP or the Left in the upcoming elections. Responding to reports of Gandhi considering re-contesting from Wayanad, Vijayan emphasized that the Congress must determine both the candidate’s constituency and the opposition.

The CPI(M) in Kerala is part of the I.N.D.I.A block but hasn’t sent a representative to its decision-making body. In the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, Gandhi won in Wayanad, securing a significant victory for the Congress-led UDF, while the CPI(M) won only one seat out of 20 in the state. Vijayan remains confident about the Left’s performance in the upcoming elections.
