Meghalaya Yields New Burrowing Reed Snake
A group of scientists from different institutions has discovered a new type of burrowing reed snake in the West Garo Hills district of Meghalaya. This new species has been named Calamaria garoensis, also known as the Garo Hills reed snake. The discovery was officially recorded in Taprobanica, which is a well-known scientific journal.
The snake is small and lives underground, which makes it difficult to find. Scientists believe that it may have been hidden for many years before being discovered. This finding is important because it adds to the knowledge of wildlife and biodiversity in the region.
The research was carried out by a team of experts from different organizations. These include Help Earth, Cotton University, Assam Don Bosco University, Mizoram University, Zoological Survey of India, and the National Research and Innovation Agency.
This discovery shows how important teamwork is in scientific research. By working together and sharing knowledge, scientists from different places were able to find and study this new species. It also highlights the rich wildlife found in Meghalaya and the need to protect such natural habitats for future generations.
