Sylhet [Bangladesh], May 18 (ANI): Veteran Bangladeshi batter Mushfiqur Rahim achieved a significant milestone in the second Test against Pakistan at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on Monday. He scored his 14th Test century and became the top Bangladesh batter with the most centuries in the traditional format, surpassing Mominul Haque.

Rahim reached this historic milestone during his innings of 137 runs in the second innings. His efforts also helped him cross the 16,000-run mark in international cricket, making him the first Bangladesh player to achieve this feat. He now has a total of 16,058 runs across all formats.

Playing his 102nd Test match, Rahim hit four boundaries during Mohammad Abbas’s over to complete the milestone. His teammates and fans celebrated his achievement with a standing ovation.

Bangladesh set a challenging target of 437 runs for Pakistan. The hosts aim to win both Tests to secure a clean sweep after already winning the first match in Dhaka by 104 runs.

Rahim also played a key role in Bangladesh’s first Test victory, contributing 71 runs in the first innings and 22 in the second. Currently, he is focused on Test cricket after retiring from T20Is in 2022 and ODIs in 2025. He has scored 6763 runs in Tests and holds 29 half-centuries.

Earlier, Pakistan’s Litton Das scored a century to help his team post 278. Bangladesh’s bowlers, including Taijul Islam and Nahid Rana, restricted Pakistan to 232 in their first innings.

With this match, Bangladesh hopes to win the second Test and complete a successful home series. (ANI)
