Oliva Miles and Courtney Williams Lead Lynx to 108-100 Win Over Fever

MINNEAPOLIS — Oliva Miles and Courtney Williams combined for a whopping 55 points as the Minnesota Lynx secured their 10th straight victory, defeating the Indiana Fever 108-100 on Sunday.

Before the game, there was a heated debate outside Target Center. Supporters of Fever player Sophie Cunningham, who has spoken out against allowing transgender athletes to compete with cisgender women, faced off against those opposing her views. Minnesota coach Cheryl Reeves showed her support for LGBTQ+ rights by wearing a “Trans kids belong” shirt and having a pregame conversation with Cunningham, who was booed during the game.

The Lynx held a strong 96-82 lead with 6:41 left on the clock. However, the Fever fought back, cutting the deficit to just two points (100-98) with over two minutes remaining. Miles and Williams stepped up with crucial baskets to seal the win for the Lynx.

Both teams shot 57% from the field, but the Lynx outperformed the Fever in key areas. Minnesota had fewer turnovers (6 vs. 12) and more offensive rebounds (11-5), giving them an edge. The Lynx’s defense also held firm against the league’s No. 2 offense.

Napheesa Collier contributed 18 points, eight rebounds, and seven assists for the Lynx (25-6). Natasha Howard added 13 points, and Kayla McBride scored 10.

For the Fever (19-11), Kelsey Mitchell led with 37 points, her fifth 30-point game of the season. Caitlin Clark had 19 points and 10 assists, while Aliyah Boston added 15 points, eight rebounds, and seven assists.

The first quarter was intense, with the Lynx leading 36-32, tying a league record for most points in an opening period. Mitchell scored 16 points in the first quarter, but Miles took over in the second, helping the Lynx to a 64-53 halftime lead.
