Pantheon Road Requires Better Infrastructure and Beautification for Residents

Pantheon Road, a 1.3-km stretch in Ward 61 in Egmore, Chennai, known for its tourist attractions and residential areas, needs better civic infrastructure. Residents have flagged issues such as overflowing sewage, flooding due to Cyclone Michaung, encroachments on footpaths, and mosquito breeding hotspots. Despite the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) giving the road a makeover, sewage overflow continues to be a problem, and the completion of projects has been delayed.

Residents are demanding the speedy completion of a pumping station near Egmore Court, improved sewer infrastructure, removal of encroachments, and better design of storm-water drains. Chennai Corporation officials have stated that the sewage overflow issue will be resolved after the inauguration of the pumping station.

Despite various ambitious projects implemented by the Chennai Corporation, such as a cycle-sharing system and wide footpaths, some residents feel these initiatives have not been effectively utilized.
