Protest Over Immersion of Ganesh Idols in Hyderabad

In Hyderabad, a section of organizers of Ganesh pandals staged a protest when police and municipal authorities stopped the immersion of Ganesh idols made of Plaster of Paris (PoP) in Hussain Sagar Lake in compliance with the orders of the Telangana High Court. The protesters demanded government intervention to allow idols to be immersed in Hussain Sagar as usual and created traffic congestion on the busy Tank Bund road.

Last year, similar protests were attempted, opposing restrictions on idol immersion. Authorities have built artificial ponds for PoP idol immersion due to environmental concerns, but some organizers argue this goes against Hindu customs. The High Court recently directed that idols made of PoP should only be immersed in designated artificial ponds, not natural water sources.
