Saravana Selvarathinam Store in Pallavaram Faces Sealing by TNPCB Over Pollution Concerns

Employees of the Saravana Selvarathinam Store in Pallavaram staged a protest when officials from the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board (TNPCB) attempted to seal the store due to pollution issues arising from the use of diesel generators. The multi-departmental store, which opened in October 2022 on 200-Feet Radial Road, has been releasing smoke and sewage due to a lack of a permanent power connection and a functional sewage treatment plant.

Local residents have voiced complaints about the air and noise pollution generated by the generators. Approximately 500 store employees gathered to obstruct the officials from carrying out their duties, asserting that the Madras High Court was already handling the matter. However, the officials returned later in the day following an order from the High Court.
