SC Petition Seeks SIT Probe into Alleged Quid Pro Quo via Electoral Bonds

A petition filed in the Supreme Court by Common Cause seeks the constitution of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe instances of quid pro quo, corruption, and kickbacks revealed through the disclosure of details of electoral bonds. The petition, represented by advocate Prashant Bhushan and Cheryl D’Souza, alleges that investigative agencies like the CBI, Enforcement Directorate, and Income Tax Department have become “accessories to corruption.”

It highlights that firms under investigation by these agencies have made significant donations to the ruling party, possibly to influence ongoing probes. The petition emphasizes the need to unravel the entire conspiracy, involving company officials, government officers, and political party functionaries, as well as officers of investigative agencies.
