Seattle Faces Washington Again
The Seattle Seahawks will travel to Washington this Sunday to face the Commanders in a rematch of last season’s meeting. Seattle dominated their previous encounter, scoring touchdowns on each of its first four possessions and putting Washington under pressure from the start.
The game also ended on a difficult note for Washington after quarterback Jayden Daniels suffered a dislocated elbow. His injury added to a disappointing night for the Commanders, who struggled to contain Seattle’s offense.
Seattle enters this year’s matchup with plenty of confidence. The Seahawks are coming off a Super Bowl victory and have won 12 consecutive games, including their first two games of the current season. They are currently 2-0 and will look to extend their winning run against Washington.
The Commanders, meanwhile, finished last season with a 5-12 record and are trying to build a stronger campaign. Daniels will miss Sunday’s game because of another elbow injury, meaning veteran quarterback Marcus Mariota is expected to lead Washington’s offense.
Seattle also has a quarterback situation to manage. Sam Darnold suffered an injury in Week 1, giving Drew Lock an opportunity to take over. Lock has guided the Seahawks to two victories so far and will look to maintain that momentum against Washington.
One of Seattle’s biggest strengths has been its defense. The Seahawks have not allowed an opposing rusher to reach 100 yards in 28 consecutive games. Washington’s rushing attack will therefore face a major test, especially because the Commanders currently rank third in the league in rushing.
Seattle’s offense has also produced strong numbers. Wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba is having an impressive start and could reach a rare statistical milestone. He is aiming to become only the second player since Jerry Rice to record at least 120 receiving yards and a touchdown in each of his team’s first three games.
Washington will likely look to establish its running game early and reduce the pressure on Mariota. If the Commanders can control the clock and create space for their runners, they could keep Seattle’s offense on the sideline for longer periods.
The Seahawks currently lead the all-time series 13-11. Seattle enters the game with a 2-0 record, while Washington will hope home-field advantage can help it challenge the defending Super Bowl champions.
The game is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. EDT on Sunday and will be broadcast on Fox. Seattle is listed as a 7.5-point favorite heading into the matchup.
