Shreyas Iyer: Focus on Now for IPL Glory
Punjab Kings (PBKS) captain Shreyas Iyer shared his thoughts on the team’s mission to win the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 trophy. He stressed the importance of staying present and in control during the current season.
Under Iyer’s leadership and with coach Ricky Ponting, PBKS remains unbeaten so far in IPL 2025. The team has won four out of five matches, with one game abandoned due to rain.
Iyer highlighted that while the ultimate goal is to lift the trophy, the focus should remain on each match as it happens. He urged his teammates to play without distractions from past or future results and to concentrate on self-improvement. When the team works together and performs consistently, success naturally follows, he added.
Despite their strong performance this season, PBKS fell short in IPL 2025, losing to Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the final.
In their latest match against Mumbai Indians, PBKS delivered a complete performance, winning by seven wickets. Chasing 195, they reached the target in just 16.3 overs thanks to Prabhsimran Singh’s unbeaten 80 and Iyer’s fluent 66. Arshdeep Singh was instrumental with his bowling, taking three wickets for just 22 runs.
Mumbai Indians’ Quinton de Kock scored an impressive 112, but PBKS dominated the chase, securing a well-deserved victory.
