Shubman Gill Gets Hurt During Practice
India’s Shubman Gill left practice in pain after being hit on the right elbow by Mohammed Siraj’s delivery. This happened two days before India was set to play their first ODI against West Indies at Greenfield International Stadium. The Indian team arrived in Thiruvananthapuram on September 23 but has yet to train.
During practice, Gill was batting with Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Ruturaj Gaikwad. He started cautiously but seemed settled while facing Gurnoor Brar. However, the incident occurred when he faced Siraj. A ball that climbed struck his right elbow, causing him to leave the nets with the physio attending to him. His teammates checked on him, including Kohli, who was batting nearby.
Gill’s arm was strapped, and he spent the rest of the session recovering. He did not bat again in live bowling. Later, he appeared more relaxed, joking with Brar as the group left practice. India has just over a day before their match on Sunday at 2 PM IST.
This isn’t the first time Gill has faced an injury scare. In Sri Lanka last month, a blow to his ring finger during Tests briefly worried fans.
The West Indies team, led by Shai Hope, is expected to train on Saturday ahead of the match. Their squad features pace bowlers and young keepers. The three ODIs will be played in Thiruvananthapuram, Guwahati, and New Chandigarh, followed by five T20Is.
Meanwhile, India’s tour comes as West Indies announced financial changes, including contract adjustments for international players.
