Siddaramaiah Criticises Delay in Women’s Reservation Act

In Karnataka, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Monday responded to criticism from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) regarding the issue of women’s reservation.

He said that the BJP’s accusations against the Indian National Congress were not correct. He added that the central government should have implemented the Women’s Reservation Act immediately after it was passed in 2023.

Speaking to reporters in Mysuru, Siddaramaiah said that the Congress party has always supported giving more representation to women in elected bodies. He said this has been a long-standing position of the party.

He also pointed out that a Congress-led government had earlier introduced important constitutional changes through the 73rd and 74th amendments, which strengthened local self-governance and increased participation in local bodies.

Siddaramaiah said that ensuring proper representation for women in politics is important for democracy and should be implemented without delay.
