Sub-Inspector Shifted After Controversial Flag Incident

A sub-inspector, identified as Nagarajan and attached to Sembium police station, found himself reassigned after a video circulated on social media, showing him snatching several flags and discarding them into a plastic container near M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The incident took place while the officer was on bandobust duty during a cricket match between Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Vehement condemnation from BJP and Akhil Bharatiya Vidya Parishad officials followed the video’s virality, demanding swift action against the sub-inspector. The officer had forcibly collected flags and other items from street vendors, who were in violation of regulations that prohibited selling items within a certain vicinity of the stadium.

He disposed of the seized items in a plastic container typically used for confiscated belongings from stadium-goers during security checks. Consequently, the sub-inspector has been transferred and reassigned to the modern control room.
