Supreme Court Introduces WhatsApp Integration for Advocates

Chief Justice of India (CJI) D.Y. Chandrachud announced on April 25 that the Supreme Court will begin sharing information related to cause lists, filing, and listing of cases with advocates through WhatsApp messages. This initiative aims to strengthen access to justice by integrating WhatsApp messages with the IT services of the Supreme Court. Advocates will now receive automated messages about filing cases and cause lists directly on their mobile phones.

The move is part of the Supreme Court’s efforts to digitize its functioning and enhance access to justice for common litigants and lawyers. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta commended the initiative, emphasizing its revolutionary impact on the judiciary’s working habits and paper-saving efforts. CJI Chandrachud also shared the top court’s official WhatsApp number, clarifying that it will not receive messages or calls. He highlighted that the Centre has allocated ₹7,000 crore for the e-court project, demonstrating the government’s commitment to judicial digitization.
