Intensifying Anti-Naxal Operations in Odisha

The recent exchange of fire between security forces and Maoists in Odisha’s Boudh district highlights the ongoing battle against left-wing extremism. With 63 Naxalites killed in 154 incidents of violence between 2019 and 2023, the region remains a focal point for anti-insurgency operations. Despite a declining trend in Maoist activities in southern districts, central Odisha continues to witness LWE presence, especially in forested regions.

The Parhel Reserve Forest encounter underscores the persistent threat posed by CPI (Maoist) insurgents. The recovery of arms and grenades signifies the intensity of the conflict. While 42 Naxalites have been killed, 145 have been arrested, and 63 have surrendered, the security forces have suffered losses as well, with seven personnel losing their lives in the line of duty. The continued combing operations demonstrate the state’s commitment to eradicating the Maoist menace from Odisha’s heartland.
