Tragic Accident at Mumbai-Nagpur Expressway Construction Site: 15 Workers Killed

A devastating accident occurred at the construction site of the Mumbai-Nagpur Expressway (Samruddhi Mahamarg) in Thane, Maharashtra, resulting in the loss of 15 workers’ lives and leaving three others injured. The mishap took place in Shahpur, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s home district when a crane crashed on a girder around 1 a.m. on Tuesday.

The massive gantry crane collapsed, trapping the workers at a location between Sargaon and Sarambegain, where the final phase of the 701-km-long Samruddhi Mahamarg project, connecting Nashik to Mumbai, was underway. The authorities swiftly initiated a large-scale rescue operation, mobilizing the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and other local agencies to assist in the efforts.

The Thane Police, Fire Brigade, and disaster response teams are working tirelessly to find survivors and provide aid to the injured, while there are concerns that the death toll may rise as the rescue operation continues.
