U.K. and France Assert Determination for Russia’s Failure in Ukraine as U.S. Aid Faces Challenges

The United Kingdom and France have jointly reiterated their steadfast commitment to ensuring that Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine fails. Speaking after discussions in Paris, U.K. Foreign Secretary David Cameron emphasized the need for Ukraine’s allies to leverage their combined economic strength, which surpasses Russia’s by a significant margin.

Both Cameron and French counterpart Catherine Colonna stressed that Russia should not be rewarded for its aggression. However, no new aid announcements were made during the press briefing. The statements come at a time when U.S. aid to Ukraine is facing hurdles in Congress, with President Joe Biden’s call for replenished wartime aid yet to be approved.

The European Union has contributed $91 billion in various forms of assistance, but internal discussions continue regarding additional support. Cameron affirmed continued support from the U.K. and France, emphasizing the importance of determining the next phase in Ukraine’s fight against Russian aggression.
