Udhayanidhi Questions Delay Over Corruption Evidence
Leader of the Opposition Udhayanidhi Stalin on Thursday, August 21, 2026, questioned Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay over his claim that he has evidence of corruption in the previous DMK government.
Udhayanidhi asked why the Chief Minister was taking time to examine the files if he already had evidence and proof of corruption. He raised the issue during the Assembly session and challenged the government to take immediate legal action if it had enough evidence.
Chief Minister Vijay had said in the Assembly on August 19 that he had documents and evidence related to corruption allegations against the previous DMK government. He said the files were on his table and that he would reveal the details when he felt the time was right.
The statement created a political debate in the State. Responding to the Chief Minister, Udhayanidhi questioned why the government had not yet acted on the alleged evidence.
Udhayanidhi said that if the government has proof of wrongdoing, there should be no need to delay action. He called on the Chief Minister to examine the files and begin legal proceedings if the allegations are supported by evidence.
He also said the DMK was not afraid of any investigation. According to Udhayanidhi, the government should follow the proper legal process instead of only making statements about corruption.
The issue has added to the political tension between the ruling government and the DMK. Allegations of corruption and demands for investigations have become important topics in the Assembly.
The DMK has maintained that if the government has genuine evidence against former ministers or officials, it should present the evidence and take action according to the law.
The Chief Minister’s earlier statement that the evidence would be revealed “when necessary” has also raised questions about when the documents will be made public. Opposition leaders are now demanding greater clarity from the government.
The controversy is expected to continue in the coming days, with both sides likely to defend their positions. The next steps will depend on whether the government decides to release the alleged evidence and begin formal investigations.
Udhayanidhi’s comments have made it clear that the DMK wants the government to move beyond political statements and take legal action if there is sufficient proof of corruption. The matter is likely to remain a major political issue in the Tamil Nadu Assembly.
