US-Iran Tensions Rise After Missile Attacks
The US and Iran escalated tensions after a series of military actions in the Middle East. On Tuesday, Iran launched missile and drone attacks on American targets in Bahrain and Kuwait following a US strike on what Washington claimed was an Iranian military site. The confrontation began when US forces enforcing a naval blockade disabled an oil tanker near Iran. US officials stated that a missile hit the vessel’s engine room, stopping its journey.
Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps countered, claiming the US targeted an IRGC communications facility near Qeshm Island. This location matches what US officials described as an Iranian military station. In response to the attacks, Tehran fired missiles and drones at US military bases in Bahrain and Kuwait. Defenses from the US, Bahrain, and Kuwait intercepted the threats, preventing damage.
Despite the escalation, President Trump said US-Iran talks were still ongoing. He dismissed reports that diplomatic efforts had failed. However, negotiations over a draft agreement remain unresolved, with neither side’s leaders approving it yet. Late Tuesday, US officials reported another Iranian drone attack on forces in Kuwait, but all drones were intercepted before reaching their targets.
