Anthropic CEO Warns AI Will Disrupt Software Jobs
Dario Amodei, CEO of Anthropic, has continued to warn about the fast impact of artificial intelligence on jobs. Throughout 2026, he has repeatedly said that AI could sharply reduce entry-level white-collar jobs, especially roles that involve routine computer-based work.
Now, he has expanded his warning to include software development jobs as well. Speaking in an interview with WSJ Editor-in-Chief Emma Tucker at the 2026 World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, Amodei said that AI is changing the future of software work very quickly.
He explained that software itself is moving toward what he called a “price floor of nearly zero.” This means that the cost of creating software could become extremely low because AI systems are able to write, test, and improve code much faster than humans in many situations.
Because of this, he suggested that traditional software engineering careers may face major changes in the coming years. Jobs that involve writing basic or repetitive code could be especially affected as AI tools become more advanced and widely used.
However, Amodei’s comments do not mean that all software jobs will disappear. Instead, he indicated that the nature of the work will change, with developers possibly focusing more on designing systems, checking AI-generated code, and solving complex problems that machines cannot easily handle.
His remarks have sparked discussion in the tech industry about how quickly AI is transforming employment and whether workers will need to adapt their skills to stay relevant in the future job market.
