Meet Deepti Gaur Mukerjee, New Secretary of Higher Education

Deepti Gaur Mukerjee, a senior IAS officer from the Madhya Pradesh cadre, has been named the new Secretary of the Department of Higher Education under the Ministry of Education. Her appointment was announced as part of a recent bureaucratic reshuffle approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC), according to official reports.

Before her current role, Mukerjee served as Secretary in the Ministry of Corporate Affairs. She assumed that position in August 2024. Prior to this, she had a distinguished career holding key positions in various government departments.

Mukerjee previously worked with the National Health Authority (NHA), where she served as its Chief Executive Officer. In her home state of Madhya Pradesh, she held senior roles in the School Education Department and the State Education Mission.

She was also involved in important discussions on education policy during her tenure. A 2017 document from the Ministry of Education highlights her participation in talks about implementing the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan in Madhya Pradesh. These included initiatives like Mil Banche and Kahani Utsav, which aimed to promote reading and enhance students’ learning experiences.
