Caste Shapes Migration Patterns from Telangana Survey Findings

In Telangana, where people go for work abroad often depends on their social background. For example, when a Lambada family from Mahabubabad district sends a son overseas, he usually goes to places like Dubai or Riyadh. These cities are common destinations for jobs in the Gulf region.

On the other hand, when a Brahmin family from Hyderabad sends a son abroad, he is more likely to go to countries like the United States or the United Kingdom, with places like California and London being popular choices.

This pattern is not by chance. It is based on detailed data collected across the state. The Telangana SEEEPC Survey 2024 studied migration trends of about 3.55 crore people and 242 caste groups. It is one of the most detailed caste-based surveys conducted by any state in India.

The survey found that migration from Telangana—whether to other countries or even within India—often follows clear caste lines. Different communities tend to move to different places based on factors like education, job opportunities, income levels, and social connections.

These findings show that caste still plays an important role in shaping people’s opportunities and decisions. It also explains how different communities from Telangana are connected to different parts of the world based on their social and economic background.
