Suresh Krishna, once considered as a surefire commercial director, seems to have lot his touch. In his pursuit to give Bharat a hit movie, he has unabashedly rehashed his own super hit movie Annamalai. He has also borrowed a character from another Rajinikanths's blockbuster Padaiyappa to make Aarumugam. The result however is disaster.

Aarumugam, starring Bharath, Priyamani and Ramya Krishnan in pivotal roles fails to create any magic on screen. The movie reminds you Annamalai in each and every frame. A glance at the storyline would sum up everything:
Aarumugham (Bharath) runs an Idli shop in a place where his mother's (Seetha) grave is built. He is a close friend of Karthik (Sathya), a rich man. Malini Devi (Ramya Krishna), Karthik's sister, is a rich business woman. Malini Devi, who is against his brother moving close with a poor man, tries to separate them.

Meanwhile Aarumugam falls for his father's friend's daughter Yamini (Priya Mani).
Circumstances put Malini against Aarumugam and Sathya takes side with his sister. Malini and his brother try to demolish Aarumugam's mother's grave. Aarumugham, vows to become rich and take revenge.
Enough is enough. How can we tolerate such a blatant replica of Rajini's movie by the same director? Worse, he has failed to make it watchable, as all the sequences are quite predictable. The execution too lacks any aspect that could hold our interest.
Bharath's efforts to emulate the superstar make him look like a comedian. Ramya does a neat job in her second innings as Neelambari but since the character is too predictable, her efforts go vain. Priyamani adds glamour with her skimpy outfits. Deva fails to create any magic near to his smart work in either Batsha or Annamalai.
Aarumugam is a futile exercise by a seasoned director.
