“Air Pollution in Delhi Reaches Dangerous Levels”
On Sunday, December 29, 2025, many parts of Delhi experienced extremely poor air quality, with pollution levels reaching the ‘severe’ category, according to official data.
The 24-hour average Air Quality Index (AQI) in Delhi was recorded at 390 at 4 p.m. on Sunday, December 28. This is slightly higher than the previous day’s AQI of 385. Both readings fall under the ‘very poor’ category, which means the air is highly polluted and can affect health.
The data comes from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), which publishes the daily official AQI. A higher AQI number indicates more pollution in the air.
Experts warn that prolonged exposure to such high pollution levels can be harmful, especially for children, the elderly, and people with respiratory or heart problems. Authorities advise residents to avoid outdoor activities, wear masks if stepping outside, and use air purifiers indoors if possible.
Delhi’s air quality has worsened in recent days due to factors such as vehicle emissions, industrial pollution, and seasonal crop burning in nearby states. With winter weather and calm winds, pollutants remain trapped in the city, leading to a rise in AQI levels.
