“Tambaram Station to Get New Passenger Bridge”
The Southern Railway has begun construction of a new foot overbridge (FOB) on the northern side of Tambaram railway station. The project aims to make it easier for passengers to reach all platforms without crowding. Officials say the new bridge will provide safer and more convenient access for daily commuters, reducing the pressure on the existing FOB.
Currently, the old FOB has escalators only at the eastern and western entrances of the station. Passengers entering from other directions have to climb stairs to access the station’s 10 platforms. This often leads to congestion, especially during peak hours, making it difficult for passengers carrying luggage, senior citizens, and those with disabilities.
The new FOB will include wider pathways, additional staircases, and improved facilities such as ramps and handrails to support passengers with mobility issues. By providing access from all sides of the station, the bridge will allow passengers to move more smoothly between platforms.
Southern Railway officials believe the project will not only improve passenger movement but also enhance overall safety at Tambaram station. They expect the new bridge to be completed soon, making the station more commuter-friendly and easing the daily rush-hour traffic on the platforms.
In addition to the new FOB, authorities are also planning other minor upgrades at the station, such as better signage, improved lighting, and seating areas, to ensure a comfortable experience for passengers.
