Government Highlights Growth During Thanks Motion
The Lok Sabha has begun a discussion on the Motion of Thanks to President Droupadi Murmu’s address to the joint sitting of both Houses of Parliament. The discussion is an important parliamentary process where members talk about the government’s policies and priorities mentioned in the President’s speech. A total of 18 hours has been set aside for this debate.
Union Minister and BJP MP Sarbananda Sonowal moved the motion in the Lok Sabha. He described the President’s address as remarkable and inspiring. According to him, the speech outlined a clear vision for the future development of the country. He said it reflected the government’s commitment to social justice, inclusive growth, and the goal of building a “Viksit Bharat” or developed India.
Sonowal said the government follows the principle of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayas,” which means working together for everyone’s progress, earning people’s trust, and making collective efforts. He added that this is not just a slogan but the foundation of the government’s policies.
Criticising the previous Congress-led government, Sonowal said that before 2014, India faced policy paralysis, corruption, and delays in project execution. He claimed that development was slow and governance lacked direction during that period.
He said that after Prime Minister Narendra Modi came to power in 2014, the country began a new phase of rapid growth and overall progress. Sonowal highlighted that India, which was once counted among the world’s “fragile five” economies, has now become the fourth-largest economy globally.
Despite challenges such as the COVID-19 pandemic, international conflicts, and supply chain disruptions, he said India continues to remain the fastest-growing major economy. He added that the country is steadily moving toward the goal of becoming a developed nation.
The minister also spoke about welfare schemes and direct benefits to citizens. He said around ₹44 lakh crore has been transferred directly to beneficiaries’ bank accounts through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system. According to him, these schemes have helped improve transparency and reduce corruption. He further stated that government efforts have helped lift nearly 25 crore people out of poverty.
The discussion on the Motion of Thanks will continue in the coming days, with members from different parties sharing their views on the President’s address and the government’s performance.
