Supreme Court to Hear KDRB Appeal March 10
The Supreme Court of India has scheduled March 10 for the final hearing of an appeal filed by the Kerala Devaswom Recruitment Board (KDRB). The appeal challenges a decision of the Kerala High Court that cancelled certain rules allowing the Board to appoint staff to posts in the Guruvayoor Devaswom and in aided educational institutions.
The High Court had earlier struck down the provisions that gave KDRB the authority to make these appointments. Following this, the Board moved the Supreme Court seeking relief.
A Bench headed by Justice Vikram Nath heard the matter and fixed March 10 for final arguments. During the hearing, senior advocate V. Giri, appearing for KDRB on instructions from advocate-on-record G. Prakash, assured the court that the Board would not make any new selections until the case is decided. This means no appointments will be made in the meantime.
Advocate Mukund P. Unny, appearing for the candidates, told the court that thousands of people had written the recruitment examination. He said these candidates are now “caught in the cross-fire” because their future depends on the outcome of the legal dispute.
The case has created uncertainty for many job aspirants who are waiting for the recruitment process to be completed. The Supreme Court’s final decision on March 10 will determine whether KDRB can continue to appoint staff under the disputed provisions.
