Indian Team Summits Mount Aconcagua
A six-member team from the Nehru Institute of Mountaineering in Uttarkashi and the Jawahar Institute of Mountaineering and Winter Sports in Pahalgam has successfully reached the summit of Mount Aconcagua in Argentina.
The team began their expedition earlier this month after being ceremonially flagged off by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. The expedition was carefully planned and involved weeks of preparation, physical training, and acclimatisation to high-altitude conditions.
It stands at an altitude of about 6,961 metres above sea level. Because of its high elevation, freezing temperatures, strong winds, and thin air, climbing the mountain is considered a tough challenge even for experienced mountaineers.
The Defence Ministry said the successful climb shows India’s growing strength in international mountaineering. It also reflects the world-class training and discipline provided by the country’s leading mountaineering institutes. These institutes train students in rock climbing, ice climbing, trekking, rescue operations, and winter sports.
Officials added that such achievements not only bring pride to the nation but also encourage young people to take up adventure sports. The success of the team highlights their courage, teamwork, and determination in overcoming harsh weather and difficult terrain.
The expedition stands as an important milestone for Indian mountaineering and showcases the country’s ability to compete and succeed in challenging international expeditions.
