KKR’s Long-Term Investment in Cameron Green

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) head coach Abhishek Nayar has stated that all-rounder Cameron Green was chosen as a long-term player for the franchise. This comes after reports of Green being mainly used as a batter due to his current role within the team.

Green is recovering from a lower back injury, which has led Cricket Australia (CA) to limit his workload. He is expected to return to bowling only after 10-12 days. Despite this, Green was spotted bowling in the nets ahead of KKR’s match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).

Nayar explained that selecting players isn’t just about short-term gains. “You look at what a player has done over the years and the skills he brings,” Nayar said during a press conference. He added that while not all players perform as expected, Green was seen as a crucial asset for KKR.

The coach emphasized that decisions in auctions and tournaments aren’t immediate and involve considering factors like injury history and fitness updates. However, the franchise focuses on what a player can achieve at his best.

In KKR’s opening match against Mumbai Indians (MI), Green scored 18 runs in 10 balls while batting at No. 3. The team lost the match.

Green’s last bowling appearances were during Australia’s T20 World Cup matches against Zimbabwe and Oman, where he took one wicket against Zimbabwe but none against Oman.

Both KKR and Sunrisers Hyderabad are coming into their upcoming match on Thursday after suffering losses in their opening games of the IPL season.
