Asha Bhosle Honored with State Funeral in Mumbai
The final rites of legendary singer Asha Bhosle were held with full state honors at Shivaji Park in Mumbai on Monday afternoon (April 13, 2026). Her body was kept in a glass casket, covered with the Indian national flag and decorated with white lilies. Police officials gave a ceremonial salute as a mark of respect.
Asha Bhosle passed away on Sunday (April 12, 2026) at the age of 92 due to multi-organ failure in Mumbai. She was the younger sister of Lata Mangeshkar and was one of the most famous and respected singers in India.
Her career lasted for more than eight decades, during which she recorded over 12,500 songs in many languages. Her songs were featured in films starring popular actresses like Meena Kumari, Madhubala, and Kajol, among many others.
Before the funeral, her son Anand Bhosle requested the public to pay their respects at her home in Lower Parel. After that, the funeral procession moved to the crematorium at Shivaji Park, where the final rites took place at 4 p.m.
Asha Bhosle’s passing has deeply saddened fans not only in India but around the world. She is remembered as a legendary voice in Indian music, and her songs will continue to be loved for generations.
