Moises Henriques Scores Historic T20I Century for Portugal

Moises Henriques, a former Australian all-rounder, hit an outstanding 111-run knock against Czechia in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Europe Sub-Regional Qualifier C in Finland. His innings, which included 12 fours and seven sixes, came at an incredible strike rate of 217.64. This helped Portugal score 211/6 in their 20 overs. Due to rain, Czechia’s target was reduced to 116 from 8.5 overs, which they failed to reach, losing by 91 runs. Henriques was named Player of the Match for his impressive performance.

This was Henriques’ first T20I century and his fourth appearance for Portugal. He previously scored an unbeaten 66 in Portugal’s opening match against Israel. Born in Madeira, Portugal, Henriques moved to Australia as a child but recently switched allegiance to play for Portugal. After retiring from Australian domestic cricket in 2026, he was appointed captain of Portugal’s team aiming to qualify for the T20 World Cup 2028.

Henriques has a long history with Australian cricket, representing the country 44 times across all formats between 2009 and 2021. He captained Australia’s Under-19 side in 2006 and was a leading wicket-taker in that tournament. In domestic cricket, he became the most-capped player for NSW and the Sydney Sixers, winning multiple trophies during his career.

His ultimate goal is to lead Portugal to the T20 World Cup, inspired by Italy’s recent achievement of qualifying for the tournament. While he acknowledges the challenge, Henriques remains determined to make history for Portugal.
