Jacob deGrom Strikes Out 8 in Rangers’ Win Over Athletics

The Rangers quickly built a comfortable lead. Brandon Nimmo was one of the team’s biggest contributors. He recorded two hits, drove in two runs and scored once.

Nimmo helped the Rangers during the second inning when the team scored two runs. He later added another RBI in the third inning, giving Texas even more control of the game.

Justin Foscue also made a big contribution. He hit a solo home run in the fourth inning, his 10th homer of the season. The home run increased the Rangers’ lead and put more pressure on Oakland.

deGrom Delivers a Strong Start

DeGrom was the main reason the Rangers were able to win comfortably.

The 38-year-old pitcher allowed only one hit during his seven innings. Lawrence Butler recorded the Athletics’ only hit against him, coming in the second inning.

DeGrom’s performance was especially impressive because of his recent struggles. After giving up eight runs in his previous game, he needed a strong response, and he delivered it against Oakland.

He has also been much better at home this season. DeGrom now has a 2.42 ERA at Globe Life Field, while his ERA on the road is 5.86.

Athletics Struggle Again

Oakland rookie pitcher Gage Jump started the game but had a difficult night. He gave up seven runs in only 4 1/3 innings.

The Athletics have now lost four straight games. Their struggles have continued throughout August, which was their worst August performance since 1978.

Oakland’s offense also had very few chances against deGrom. The team managed only one hit against him during his seven innings.

Oakland Scores Late

The Athletics finally got on the scoreboard in the ninth inning.

Carlos Cortes singled and later came around to score. Darell Hernaiz brought him home with a sacrifice fly, giving Oakland its only run of the night.

By then, however, the Rangers already had a large lead and were comfortably on their way to victory.

Rangers Stay in Wild-Card Race

The win improved the Rangers’ record to 68-70. Texas remains close to Cleveland in the American League wild-card race, trailing by only 1.5 games.

With the regular season moving toward its final stages, every win is becoming increasingly important for the Rangers. Performances like deGrom’s could be important if Texas wants to remain in the playoff race.

The Rangers will next send left-handed pitcher MacKenzie Gore to the mound. The Athletics have not yet announced their starting pitcher for the next game.

For the Rangers, the victory was more than just another win. It was also a confidence boost for deGrom, who showed that he could quickly recover from a difficult outing and once again dominate opposing hitters.
