IIT Delhi Director Recruitment 2026: Eligibility & Salary
The Ministry of Education has invited applications for the post of Director of the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi). The Department of Higher Education has issued an official recruitment notification, with eligible candidates allowed to apply until October 31, 2026.
The Director will serve as the academic and administrative head of IIT Delhi and will be responsible for guiding the institute’s overall development, including education, research, administration and institutional activities.
The appointment will be made through a Search-cum-Selection Committee, which will evaluate eligible candidates and recommend a suitable person for the position. The final appointment will be made after approval from the competent authority.

Eligibility Criteria
Candidates applying for the position must hold a PhD degree and should have secured a first-class or equivalent qualification at the previous academic level. Candidates with an engineering background will be preferred.
However, candidates with strong expertise in science, mathematics or management may also be considered in exceptional cases, depending on their academic and professional record.
Applicants are expected to have an outstanding record in teaching and research. They should have at least 10 years of teaching experience as a Professor at a reputed engineering or technology institution or university.
Candidates must also have experience in guiding PhD scholars and should possess at least five years of administrative experience. These requirements are intended to ensure that the person appointed has both academic expertise and experience in managing a large higher-education institution.
Age Requirement
Candidates are ideally expected to be below 60 years of age as on the last date for submitting applications, which is October 31, 2026.
