India Struggles to Defend Hangzhou 2023 Gold Medals at Aichi-Nagoya

India’s campaign at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya has reached its 10th day, with the country continuing to add medals across several sports.

At the Day 10 update, India stood 12th in the medal standings with 37 medals, including four gold, 16 silver and 17 bronze.

India’s four gold medals had come from women’s T20 cricket, along with the men’s and women’s kabaddi teams and the 10m mixed air pistol event. Both Indian kabaddi teams successfully defended their Asian Games titles by defeating Iran in their respective finals.

India’s women’s cricket team also retained the Asian Games gold medal after defeating Sri Lanka in the final. The victory gave India its first gold medal of the Aichi-Nagoya Games.

The current tally remains below India’s final performance at the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou. India finished those Games with a record 107 medals, comprising 28 gold, 38 silver and 41 bronze.

However, the 2026 Games are still underway, with several events remaining. India continues to have opportunities to add medals in athletics, shooting, boxing, hockey, cricket and other disciplines.

The final comparison with the Hangzhou campaign will only be possible after the Aichi-Nagoya Games conclude. India’s medal tally is expected to change as the remaining competitions are completed.
