Addressing Infrastructural Needs: Sewerage Facilities Initiative in Chennai’s Merged Areas

Initiating a long-awaited endeavor, Greater Chennai Corporation has commenced work to provide sewerage infrastructure in merged areas like Semmancheri, Manali, and Madhavaram. In Semmancheri alone, a comprehensive drainage network is being established, encompassing the laying of sewer pipelines and the construction of chambers at a cost of ₹78.58 crore.

This move, welcomed by residents who have endured years of inadequate infrastructure, aims to address fundamental needs such as drinking water and sewage disposal. The project, inaugurated by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, includes laying sewerage pipelines spanning approximately 31 km and constructing seven pumping stations to channel sewage to treatment plants.

In addition to Semmancheri, efforts are underway to provide sewerage networks in north Chennai areas, with a total investment of ₹1,072.15 crore. These initiatives are poised to benefit thousands of households and significantly improve living conditions in these localities.
